The Huntsville School District recently announced its new poverty-level measurement of families who qualify for free or reduced lunch is at 71.35%. While the figure is higher than in previous years, school officials and community members agree that the need has always been there, but now the district has proof.

Officials in the Huntsville and Kingston school districts responded recently to the state report cards released last month. For the most part, schools in both districts held steady from the previous year’s report cards.

Students were evacuated from Huntsville High School Thursday after school administrators were made aware of a written bomb threat at the campus.

Charles “Chuck” Melton and Logan Carr are the new School Resource Officers (SROs) for the Huntsville School District.

While most Huntsville School District students enjoyed a summer off, some enjoyed extended learning through the summer as part of the summer garden club. 

The latest test scores for the Huntsville School District are somewhat of a mixed bag, the Huntsville School Board learned during its August 15 meeting. 

Car-rider drop-off and pick-up procedures and traffic flow for Watson Primary and Huntsville Intermediate schools will be different this year, said Huntsville Police Chief Todd Thomas.

Jonathan Warren, superintendent of the Huntsville School District, said the district still has its athletic trainer, Audrey Willingham.

Superintendents of Huntsville and Jasper public schools say they are looking forward to the start of the new scholastic year.

The final First Friday of 2023 will be held on Aug. 4 on Polk Square in downtown Huntsville. The theme for Friday’s event will be Hometown Proud/Back to School.

July and August are usually big months for school enrollment, Huntsville School officials recently agreed. Superintendent Jonathan Warren reported on the end-of-year enrollment numbers during the May Huntsville School Board meeting.

The Huntsville School District is in a better position regarding staffing this school year compared to this time last year, Superintendent Jonathan Warren said after the Huntsville School Board approved a slate of personnel at a special meeting held July 27. 

Back-to-school shoppers will be on the hunt for savings this weekend during the state's tax-free holiday, which will permit consumers to purchase certain goods free of sales or use taxes.

This was the first National Leadership Conference for the St. Paul High School students, and they soaked up every learning opportunity available. 

The Jasper School Board did an about-face Monday night, rescinding a contract offer to a former St. Paul basketball coach for a coaching position at Oark School. It also accepted the resignation of Oark Principal Kenena Pelfrey, who recommended hiring him. 

Every spring, students across Arkansas (and most other states) take standardized tests designed to gauge not only how well each student learned during the school year, but how well the schools overall did teaching.
