The Madison County Library Board met Monday at the Madison County Library in Huntsville in regular session.

The Huntsville Planning Commission on Monday night tabled approval of site plans for the new 148-bed Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Jail until February. Also during the first meeting of 2024, the panel selected its slate of officers for the year.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation and City of Huntsville deployed snow plows and salt trucks to keep roads clear, though Madison County reported issues with fuel freezing in its road graders.

The following violations were found at local businesses by the Arkansas Department of Health during the months of December:

At least three inches of snow fell on Madison County beginning around 1 p.m. and ending sometime after 8 p.m. on Sunday, leaving city streets coated. Arkansas Department of Transportation blade and de-icing trucks were seen on Huntsville streets but as of 8 a.m. Monday there was little traffic on thoroughly coated roadways.

Madison County Sheriff Ronnie Boyd advised motorists to use caution on little-traveled roads as snow continued to fall around 11:20 a.m. Friday.

An Elkins woman was arrested Thursday night at a Madison County residence when the Madison County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant issued by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at the home.

The Elkins City Council adopted a resolution approving the 2024 city budget during a regularly scheduled council meeting on Dec. 21.

A Witter man was arrested by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies after he brandished a hammer at them, Sheriff Ronnie Boyd said.
