Officials with Carroll Electric commissioned Madison County’s solar array last Thursday, meaning the array near the county shop will begin to save the county on what it pays for energy.

The Madison County Record won second place for general excellence among the state’s larger weekly newspapers at the Arkansas Press Association’s annual convention in Little Rock on Saturday. The newspaper earned 27 awards overall, including 10 first-place awards.

The Huntsville Water and Sewer Commission on Monday approved the use of  Aerobic Granular Sludge [AGS] technology for a new wastewater treatment plant, a project estimated to cost $32.5 million. Engineers and Huntsville Water Manager Sean Davis said the total cost ultimately will be less than the estimate.

Two positions that have been in the spotlight lately were discussed, and somewhat resolved, during Monday’s regular Huntsville School Board meeting. 

The Huntsville Water and Sewer Commission met in special session last Friday at Huntsville City Hall and gave the go-ahead for engineers to proceed with a plan for improvements at the wastewater treatment plant with a spending ceiling of $34 million. 

The Huntsville City Council on Monday quickly went through reports, approved a resolution for School Resource Officers for the Huntsville School District, and heard a report from Mayor Travis Dotson on what the community desired for property the city recently purchased from the county. 

The Huntsville City Council on Monday approved a two-year intra-agency agreement with the Huntsville School District to provide two School Resource Officers, after last month’s announcement by Madison County Sheriff Ronnie Boyd that his agency would no longer be providing SROs due to a lack of manpower.
