A week after giving up 52 points in a loss to Mansfield, Elkins rebounded with a 41-0 shutout of Gentry in the 4A-1 Conference opener for both teams Friday.

Mansfield used a powerful rushing attack to hand Elkins its first loss of the season, beating the Elks 52-27 on Friday.

Elkins used its bye week to prepare for Mansfield’s flexbone offense while working to correct mistakes from its first two games.

Elkins scored on a 10-yard pass from Austin Born to Josh Hamm with 22 seconds left, then Braxton Toney intercepted a pass to seal the Elks’ 33-28 season-opening win at Pea Ridge on Friday.

Josh Hamm had a sensational game with an explosive interception return and a punt return for touchdowns to help break the game open as Elkins beat Forrest City, 52-14.

Elkins (9-1, 7-0 4A-1) defeated Huntsville, 47-0, in the final game of the regular season that completed a four-year winning streak in the 4A-1 and as many conference championships.

Downs and distance mattered and Elkins’ defensive unit came up with key stops in crucial situations as the Elks (8-1, 6-1 4A-1) beat Gravette, 21-16, on Friday.

Elkins (7-1, 5-0 4A-1) maintained a share of the lead in the 4A-1 Conference football standings with a 42-7 win over Green Forest (3-5, 1-4 4A-1) on Friday.

Elkins established its first two-game win streak in school history against Prairie Grove with a 55-14 rout in 4A-1 football on Friday.

Elkins (5-1, 3-0 4A-1) turned a Lincoln fumble on the opening possession into a 3-yard rushing touchdown that set the tone for the Elks’ 83-6 romp on Friday.
