The Madison County Water Facilities Board last week approved rate increases for its customers, who will see the higher costs for water on their October bills.

Sen. Bryan King, R- Green Forest, hosted a discussion Friday with Tyson Foods, Inc., growers in Carroll County to hear their concerns about production contracts with the poultry company being terminated as of last week.

Sen. Bryan King, R-Green Forest, said Tyson poultry growers in Madison and Carroll counties have been told via telephone that contracts with two to three years remaining on their production contracts will be canceled.

Hundreds of Huntsville residents turned out for the final First Friday held on Polk Square last week. Activities included a pumper truck from the Huntsville Fire Department spraying water on the street creating a cool, splashy environment for kids as well as adults.

The Huntsville Water and Sewer Commission on Monday approved the use of  Aerobic Granular Sludge [AGS] technology for a new wastewater treatment plant, a project estimated to cost $32.5 million. Engineers and Huntsville Water Manager Sean Davis said the total cost ultimately will be less than the estimate.

Don Smith, a longtime banker and volunteer firefighter in Huntsville, died Saturday in Hindsville. He is remembered as a steady, reliable person, a valuable member of the community and as a loving family man.

Putting fluoride in the drinking water in Madison County has been stalled due to mechanical problems and problems with a contractor having to wait on state approval for new plans at the Madison County Regional Water’s treatment plant near Beaver Lake.
