Huntsville High School SkillsUSA held its Cruzin’ for Champions Auto Show on Saturday, March 30, at the AT & Georgia Mae Smith Activity Center. The show was set to earn funds for the SkillsUSA students to attend state conference and competitions on April 15-16 in Hot Springs. Thirty-nine students will attend the conference. Those attending will be competing in the categories of Automotive, Diesel, Welding, Fire Cadet Procedures, Medical Terminology, Nurse Assisting, Opening and Closing Ceremonies (Parliamentary Procedure), Welding Sculpture, Job Skill Demonstrations, Arkansas Pin Design, Quiz Bowl, Cybersecurity and Computer Programming. Advisors are Kevin Shinn, fire and medical certification, Sherri Plumlee, RN, medical, David Robinette, welding, Frank Wrinkle, auto and diesel, Zack Tvrz, cybersecurity and programming, Leticia Wrinkle, leadership teams and CTE Career Exploration. This was the second year for the car show. Mayor Travis Dotson announced the trophy winners and the Huntsville Fire Department brought its engine. A live auction was conducted by Darby Spurlock and Phil Bolinger. CS Bank contributed its grill and Aaron Samuels grilled concession food. The Huntsville High School Transitions brought baked goods. Trinity Air Conditioning & Refrigeration won People’s Choice as the sponsor of a 2015 Dodge Challenger and also Best of Show as the sponsor of a 1976 Chevy Chevelle.
