Title IX

Editor’s Note: The Madison County Record reached out to Arkansas medical providers for guidance in speaking to victims and suspects involved in events in a Title IX investigation conducted by the Huntsville School District.

Following comments from Huntsville School District Board President Danny Thomas applauding the board for its handling of a Title IX sexual harassment/sexual assault investigation, parents erupted at Monday night’s board meeting, yelling at board members that they did nothing, failing to protect the students.

In a Title IX Sexual Harassment/Sexual Assault investigation involving the Huntsville High School boys’ basketball program, the Huntsville School Board went against the recommended disciplinary measures in the case by lessening them for two students, finding them to be “too severe,” and throwing out the punishment for three other students, stating that the evidence did not support the determination.

The Huntsville School Board violated the Arkansas Freedom of Information law by not notifying the press of a meeting involving the expulsion of two students involved in a Title IX investigation into sexual harassment/sexual assault involving the Huntsville High School Boys Basketball program.
