The Huntsville basketball teams had a full week of games.

In St. Paul basketball this week, the Junior Lady Saints faced the Pleasant View Middle School team from Mulberry on Nov. 28. Lainey Smith made the most points that evening, scoring 5 points. The final score was Saints 19, Mulberry 28. 

The Elkins Elks fell to the Harding Academy Wildcats 41-27 Friday night in a semifinals playoff game at home in front of a crowd estimated to be more than 1,000. Elkins entered the game on a 12-game streak of home wins, its regular season as well as its 4A-1 conference records both unblemished. The Elks concluded their 2023 run 13-1 overall.

Congratulations to Chanlr Mitchell for ranking eighth out of 178 in the Girls Division in  the Archery Tournament at Valley Springs on Saturday. 

Since she could dribble a ball, Kingston High School senior Rilee Pittman has been in the game. She proves herself on the court as a small forward and power forward for the Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets basketball team. When her feet are off of the court, they can be found pounding the ground as part of the Kingston Yellow Jackets track team. When not participating in athletics, Pittman helps out on her family’s cattle farm while raising her own sheep on the farm. In her free time, she enjoys hunting. 

Friday, the Lady Eagles played the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers losing a tough game 33-43.

After a seven-year hiatus, the Madison County Hall of Fame will once again honor some great area athletes with three ceremonies in January.

Congratulations to Lila Hartness, she hit 1,000 points in her high school basketball career Monday night. 

Huntsville High School senior Mena Thomas uses sports to express herself through art and movement. You can find her on the court scoring points as a wing for the Lady Eagles Basketball team. When not on the court, she is a competitive dancer for the 407 dance company in Huntsville, as well as a dance instructor. In school, she maintains high grades as a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and has been a member of the Class Council for several years. 

Eagles’ fans at Friday night’s basketball game against Siloam Springs will have a new opportunity to show their team spirit.

The Lady Eagles played the Decatur Lady Bulldogs in the Lincoln Turkey Classic winning 64 to 29.

The Elkins Elks rolled over the Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs, 53-15, in a 4A playoff game at CAC Friday.

The Elkins Elks continued their postseason winning streak Friday night, defeating the Monticello Billies 56-6 in a playoff game.

All four teams played Ozark Mountain School District at Western Grove on Nov. 14. The junior girls kicked the night off with the final score Kingston 24, OMSD 33.

Kingston High School senior Lila Hartness plays basketball with devotion, love and respect for the game. Playing point guard and post for the Kingston Yellowjackets Girls Basketball team, she dribbles and passes like no other on the court. To help gain more skills for her main sport, you can find her running for cross-country and track. In the classroom, she participates in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). 

Last Tuesday night, Huntsville traveled to Ozark bringing home a 38 to 53 loss.

Members of the varsity Eagles basketball teams saluted the special veterans in their lives Friday night at the Activity Center.

Last Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles continued play in the Clarksville Tip-Off Classic losing to Morrilton 28-62.

The team-voted award recipients were: Most Valuable Player: Hallie Howerton; Most Improved: Nora Thomas.
