While most Huntsville School District students enjoyed a summer off, some enjoyed extended learning through the summer as part of the summer garden club. 

Eddie Todd, vice-president of Arkansas Farmers Union, said his organization is seeing what can be done on a state and national level to assist Northwest Arkansas poultry growers whose production contracts have been terminated by Tyson, Inc.

Growing up on a farm in Waldron in Scott County and being involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America led Caramie Edwards to where she is today: Madison County Extension Agent for 4-H and Family Consumer Science for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

The Madison County Fair will not cut activities this year despite having no advance notice that it would receive significantly less state funding.

The Huntsville Water and Sewer Commission on Thursday voted to earmark $540,000 in general department funds to pay for design services by McClelland Consulting Engineers, Inc., the Fayetteville firm the city has engaged to develop  a new wastewater treatment plant, a project estimated to cost $32.5 million.

The latest test scores for the Huntsville School District are somewhat of a mixed bag, the Huntsville School Board learned during its August 15 meeting. 

Madison County Judge Larry Garrett informed the quorum court Monday night that bonds for the jail project will be sold on Oct. 31 and he will be ready to sign contracts on Nov. 1.

Car-rider drop-off and pick-up procedures and traffic flow for Watson Primary and Huntsville Intermediate schools will be different this year, said Huntsville Police Chief Todd Thomas.

In an attempt to prevent Madison County from becoming home to digital asset mining, Madison County Quorum Court passed an emergency noise ordinance at its July meeting. 

The St. Paul Town Council approved a temporary exception to the town ordinance that governs RV parking and people living in RVs in city limits. The discussion came during the August 8 council meeting.

The 100th edition of the Madison County Fair is set for Aug. 30, with exhibits being moved into buildings on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Huntsville Police Chief Todd Thomas informed the city council Monday night that Officer Charles “Chuck” Melton has been hired as the new school resource officer for the Huntsville School District.
