Whelchel awarded annual Terry Gilliam scholarship

Huntsville graduate Beau Whelchel (center) was named the recipient of the 2019 Terry L. Gilliam Memorial Award and Scholarship at the Huntsville High School’s annual awards night last month. According to an announcement, Whelchel “was chosen from a list of applicants that best reflected the scholar/athlete characteristics possessed by Terry Gilliam.” Gilliam was killed in Vietnam, defending his country in 1969. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000, renewable for four years to the college of the recipient’s choice.
