Nora Virginia Harris Stanphill

Nora Virginia Harris Stanphill, 97, of Huntsville, died Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Countryside Assisted Living.

She was born Nov. 24, 1921, at home on the family farm in Huntsville, to Doyle Wythe and Tina “Tiney” Reeves Harris.

Virginia was a 1944 graduate of the Huntsville Vocational School. After high school, she lived in Fayetteville and worked for the University of Arkansas. On weekends, she would ride the bus home, and it was on one of those trips home that she met her future husband, Paul Reed Stanphill. Paul had to propose twice before Virginia accepted, and they were married at Hartwell on Jan. 19, 1946.

They started married life on a farm in Hindsville given to them by Paul’s grandfather, Elbert Reed. Together, they raised three children.

Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and skilled at embroidery. When her grandchildren started arriving, she made quilts for them. No family or holiday dinner was complete without her yeast rolls. There were also the delicious desserts she made: strawberry shortcake, “pink stuff,” and peach and blackberry cobblers. Virginia also enjoyed working in her yard and grew beautiful flowers.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her only sister, Vera Sisco of Eugene, Ore.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Pauletta Lynn and Carroll Falls of Kentwood, Mich., and Debbie Sue and Roger Case of Huntsville; son David James Stanphill of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Travis Falls and Amie Metz of Hanover Park, Ill., Shannon Falls and Todd Garrett of San Antonio, Texas, Nathan and Julie Falls of Grand Rapids, Mich., Bailey and Lori Stanphill of Grove, Okla., Chanel and John Pennington of Little Rock, and Jay Stanphill of Fayetteville; and seven great-grandchildren, Paige Stanphill, Tristen Stanphill, Sophia Stanphill, Crispin Stanphill, Mia Stanphill, Nora Pennington and Avery Falls.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, and 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Huntsville Cemetery, with Butch Bolinger officiating.

Pallbearers will be Travis Falls, Nathan Falls, Bailey Stanphill, Jay Stanphill, Todd Garrett and John Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Falls and Roger Case.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Virginia’s name may be made to Huntsville Cemetery, P.O. Box 824, Huntsville, AR 72740.

Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
